Developing the Role of the English Subject Leader

This course will be of particular interest to schools with newly appointed English subject leaders and those with a key focus on language and literacy within their school development plan. The aim of the course is to enable participants to lead whole school development in English in order to raise achievement. The focus will be on developing the subject knowledge of course members and also their role as subject leader.  There will be a balance between relevant theory and models of good practice. The course will draw on the expertise of highly regarded outside speakers and experienced English subject leaders

Course members will undertake:

  • in-depth classroom action research based on case studies and an intervention project.
  • a critical evaluation of their own school and classroom practice
  • reviews of research and reports
  • case studies
  • an end of course essay of 5,000 words (for accreditation)

Tutor support will be available. The course is accredited at 60 points at Level 4 (M level). Points will be transferable to higher education institutions.
