Effective Teaching of Early Years Children

This course is for teachers working in children’s centres and the foundation stage in nursery, primary and special schools. The course aims to: improve the professional knowledge, understanding and teaching skills of early years teachers, to support their skills in observation and assessment (with particular reference to the Foundation Stage Curriculum) and to develop their capacity for curriculum leadership and planning. Teachers will select an area of particular interest and concern for their own settings to develop during the course. 

Course members will undertake:

  • in-depth classroom action research based on case studies and an intervention project.
  • a critical evaluation of their own school and classroom practice
  • reviews of research and reports
  • case studies
  • an end of course written essay of 5,000 words (accreditation)

Tutor support will be available. The course is accredited at 60 points at Level 4 (M level). Points will be transferable to higher education institutions.
