CLPE's special book collections

As well as its large collection of books in print, the CLPE library has two reference collections of books of special interest.

One is a collection of poetry books, the other is a collection of traditional, folk and fairy stories. Both include many books which are no longer in print and also a number of imported titles, particularly in the traditional stories collection.

The poetry collection includes sections devoted to nursery rhymes, humorous poetry, general anthologies, thematic anthologies, collections by individual poets, published collections of poetry by children and song books.

The traditional stories collection is divided into two sections. The picture books section is arranged by title, bringing together many variants of the same stories. The many collections of stories are mostly arranged by the geographical area from which they come. There are also collections of stories from many countries, myths and legends and stories from world religions.

Both collections can be used by researchers, the media and other organisations, children's literature and education students and may be viewed on request. If you would like to view the collection or carry out work based on the books please contact the Librarian Ann Lazim ann@clpe.co.uk
