Launch of an exciting CLPE publication

Animating Literacy
Edited by Sue Ellis and Kimberly Safford

This exciting new publication
presents exciting and convincing evidence from schools where teachers, artists and children work together in filmmaking, storytelling, drama, dance, visual arts and theatre projects.

The book draws on a range of exciting action research and shows how the development of an inclusive, creative curriculum promotes literacy in its widest sense. Animating Literacy is a window on arts partnerships at work in classrooms from the Nursery to Year 6 and shows how creative approaches to learning enhance children’s reading, writing, speaking and listening. Partnerships also play a key role in teachers’ professional development.

Animating Literacy was supported by Creative Partnerships London South and CfBT Brixton-North Lambeth.

Boys on the Margin
Kimberly Safford, Olivia O'Sullivan and Myra Barrs

Boys on the Margin presents a fascinating picture of a CLPE classroom research project in which a group of Key Stage 2 teachers try out ways of teaching literacy which use discussion, drama and interactive ICT to explore three very different texts, in order to involve groups of boys on the margins of literacy learning.

There is continuing national concern over the achievement of boys throughout primary school and this new book reveals how active, social approaches to literacy learning can create a climate where underachievers become more successful and engaged readers and writers.

A national conference to present the research and launch the new book takes place on Friday 8 October 2004. For more information on the conference and booking click here.

Paperback £20/£18 (lower price for CLPE Schools Network and LEA subscribers.
