Texts are at the heart of the National Literacy Strategy. Their selection and use is critical to children's literacy learning. Choosing Texts for the National Literacy Strategy is a booklist compiled by the staff of CLPE to help teachers plan and resource the National Literacy Strategy with high quality texts for:
| • |
Shared reading and shared writing |
| • |
Group and guided reading, in differentiated levels for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 |
| • |
Reading aloud programmes |
There are suggested texts for all genre and topic categories specified for each year within the NLS teaching framework. Included are texts recommended in the current CLPE Core Booklist with many additional titles to match the National Literacy Strategy range.

Reviews for Choosing texts for the National Literacy Strategy
This is a plain and simple booklist, but, unlike many I have seen since the implementation of the National Literacy Strategy, this one is selected and annotated by people who have a sound understanding of children's educational needs and knowledge of children's books
I always have reservations about booklists. I have seen so many, created with the best of intentions, which have provided no real support to classroom practitioners at all. However, it is unrealistic to expect all primary teachers either to acquire the necessary knowledge about children's literature or to have the time to seek out appropriate materials to fit the demands of the curriculum. While that is the case, I can think of few people better to provide a booklist than our colleagues from CLPE."
